AC Repair vs. Replacement: How to Decide in Central Texas

When your AC breaks down in July, the big question is whether to fix it or replace it. Here is a straightforward way to decide.

Lean toward repair if…

Your system is under 10–12 years old, it’s the first major repair, the unit is still under warranty, and the fix is a smaller share of a new system’s cost. A well-maintained modern system should give you 12–15 years in the Texas climate.

Lean toward replacement if…

The system is 12+ years old, it still uses phased-out R-22 refrigerant, you’ve had multiple repairs recently, or a single repair would cost more than about half the price of a new unit. Older units also run far less efficiently — a new high-efficiency system often pays back part of its cost in lower electric bills.

The Deane difference

Every new system we install is backed by a 10-year parts and labor warranty through JB Warranties — coverage most contractors simply don’t offer. We also provide free replacement estimates and financing as low as $89/month, so a new system doesn’t have to break the bank.
